Christopher Fiedler

A private memorial gathering celebrating the life of Christopher J. Fiedler, 63, of Granville, formerly of Northern Virginia, will be held at a later date in Virginia.

A forensic geologist for 34 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chris passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1952 to the late James and Ruth Fiedler.

Respected and loved throughout the country, Chris was widely regarded as a top expert in his field. He was a very humble man who did not advertise his many accomplishments or awards. Outside his passion for work, he cherished the time spent with his family more than anything. Utilizing his humor and incredible story telling skills, Chris loved entertaining family and friends, sharing stories of his life and career. He was an avid reader and a huge fan of Neil Diamond. He enjoyed furniture refinishing and was a Civil War enthusiast, particularly enjoying the works of Mort Kunstler. Chris will be forever remembered as a loyal, honest, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a dear friend to many.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah A. Fiedler, children, Julie Fiedler, Eric Fiedler and his wife, Amanda, and Marc Fiedler; his brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Linda Fiedler; his grandchildren, Ryan Eric who enjoyed his long talks with his grandfather, and Alex, Charlie, and Zachary, who will forever cherish their “Pop Chris.”

In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Karen Fiedler, who died in 1992.

It is with much gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding care and compassion from the LMH Oncology Department, that the family requests memorial contributions to the Licking Memorial Hospital, Development Department, 1320 W. Main Street, Newark, OH 43055.
