A memorial reception will be held for Edward J. Kerle, 87, of Granville, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Heritage Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville. Interment will be held at a later date at Randolph Center Cemetery in Orange County, Vermont.

Ed died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at his home in Granville. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Gustav and Elsie (Palubniak) Kerle July 5, 1929.

After graduation from Passaic High School, Ed earned his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry from Hope College in Holland, Michigan where he graduated in 1951 and was a member of the National Blue Key Honor Society. He furthered his education at the University of Vermont graduating in 1953 with a Master’s Degree in chemistry. It was also at the University of Vermont where he met his future wife Jean E. Hodgdon. Ed was employed at American Cynamid in Stamford and Wallingford, Connecticut from 1953 -1970 and at Owens Corning Technical Center where he was a polymer chemist from 1970 until his retirement in 1986.

Ed or E.J., as he was known, was a member of the Holy Name Cadets Drum and Bugle Corp, an Eagle Scout, and served as an Assistant Scout Master in Greenwich, Conn. and Newark, Ohio. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol, an avid reader, and life-long learner attending many Denison University lectures and monitoring classes. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to enjoy life.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Jean H. Kerle; children, Kevin A. Kerle and Elizabeth A. Kerle and her husband, Tom Denison; and grandsons, Carson and Paul Denison.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur G. Kerle.
