Kaarina Baker Sterrett

Mrs. Kaarina Baker Sterrett, the loving wife of Dr. Andrew Sterrett for over 22 years, passed away at Kendal at Granville, under the care of Hospice of Central Ohio, on June 4, 2015. She was born Aili Maija Kaarina Forsgren in Helsinki, Finland on July 2, 1918 to the late Mr. Gustav Forsgren and Mrs. Hellin Aili Forsgren. Dr. and Mrs. Sterrett lived in Granville and Naples, FL.

Kaarina came to the United States in 1960 as the wife of Mr. Joseph Baker, a Newark, Ohio architect, accompanied by her three children, sons Kauko and Ilkka Aro, and daughter, Pirkko McBride. She served in the Finnish home defense forces during WWII earning several medals and then had her training in French cuisine in Finland and France, and hotel management in USA. She was the Chief Operations Officer of the first American-style hotel, Palace Hotel in Helsinki which opened for the 1952 Summer Olympics. In USA, she remained a homemaker.

In addition to her husband, Dr. Sterrett, and his two children, Richard and Susan, Kaarina is survived by her three children; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by Mr. Baker and one grandson. She is also survived by two nephews and one niece in Finland as well as numerous other relatives there.
