Sue Murdock teacher, friend, and loving wife passed away December 16, 2016 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Sue was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in 1948 to the late Francis and Kathryn (Harker) Gooden.

A graduate of California State College of Pennsylvania, Sue majored in education and completed Master’s Degree at Ohio University. She retired from Newark City Schools where she had taught for 30 years. An example of the consummate teacher, Sue was a passionate educator, talented musician, and a devoted and dedicated piano teacher. Her devotion, sincere desire for others, and appreciation for the arts influenced many and changed lives. The accomplishments of hundreds of her students filled her with joy and comprised her legacy.

Sue was the Youth Choir Director for over 32 years at First Presbyterian Church in Granville. For her service and commitment, Sue was honored with a piece created by Allen Pote, one of her favorite youth composers. Beside her love for music and musical theater, Sue was an avid sewer, quilter, and gardener. She also loved entertaining and was a superb hostess. She will be remembered as a creative, giving, and loving person.

Surviving are her husband of 47 years and best friend, Larry Murdock; sister, Ellen Kay Haas; brother, Jerry L. Gooden; and special friends, Bob and Kathy Heacock.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Michael Gooden.

A celebratory concert and memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. January 7, 2016 in Swasey Chapel at Denison University honoring Sue’s life with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant.
