A memorial service celebrating the life of Douglas S. Barno will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant. The family will receive friends following the service in Heritage Hall at the church.

Doug passed away December 16, 2017 at his home in Granville. He was born August 27, 1941 in Berea, Ohio to the late Peter L. and Janet G. (Campbell) Barno.

An Eagle Scout by the age of 13, Doug studied at Ohio Wesleyan University where he majored in economics and psychology. Doug enjoyed a career as a composite material consultant working in the field of chemical engineering and he was a long-time member and past president of the Rotary Club of Granville where he was active with Operation Smile missions and fund raising. He was a marathon runner that learned his life motto of On, On by running with the Hash House Harriers in Nigeria. Doug loved Granville and served as the Market Master of the Granville Farmer’s Market, was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and always greeted everyone warmly. Additionally, he was passionate about and served on the board of Center for Disability Services in Newark.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Mary Kay (Dunlap) Barno; sons, Mark, Chris, and David Barno; step children, Esther Murray, Abigail Dobbie, and Joseph Levingston; brother and sister-in-law, Gil and Margaret “Maggie” Barno; sisters and brother-in-law, Kitt and Dieter Brand and Marnie Barno; grandchildren, Owen, Cooper, Jacob, Addison, Kaitlyn, Titus, Fiona, Callie, and Penelope.

In lieu of flowers, the family would cherish contributions to Center for Disability Services, 175 S Williams St, Newark, OH 43055 or for Mission Projects C/O Rotary Club of Granville, P.O. Box 296, Granville, OH 43023.
