Both Flo and Bill Hoffman were among my favorite people when I was at Denison many years ago. I have fond memories of late night spaghetti dinners that Flo would prepare for Bill's chemistry students during exam week. They both made indelible marks on the Denison and Granville communities, and both will be greatly missed.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Hoffman family and to the faculty and students at Denison University and to those residents in Granville whose lives were touched by Flo and Bill Hoffman. I was a chemistry major at Denison and had most of my interactions with Bill. I did not know Flo very well, but sent her my condolences when I learned that Bill had passed away. I enjoyed reading Flo's obituary and was interested and quite impressed to learn about her Old Colony Burying Ground Restoration Project. Since I learned about Bill's passing a little too late to send anything in his memory, I will try to make a donation to the Restoration Project in both their memories.

In sincere sympathy and appreciation for having known two outstanding people, Flo and Bill Hoffman. I'm sure their memory makes their children and grandchildren proud.

Through the years I served on several boards with Flo. We were two of the initial board of directors of the Union Cemetery Board (charged with the Old Colony Burying Grounds). Flo was relentless in getting that project off the ground. I learned that it was best to "go with the Flo".

She was a dear soul.

God Bless!

My husband, Dick, and I moved to Granville in 1971 and Flo and Bill stand out as being especially welcoming to us. I loved volunteering at Old Colon with Flo and we often had great conversations about Granville politics. In addition to all of her other fine qualities, she was a great boss and supervised our son, John in the Denison archives the year before he started college. She even gave him a "going to college" gift pack at the end of the summer.

To the Hoffman Family - I was saddened to hear of Flo's passing and send my deepest sympathy to you. I was honored to work with Flo in the Granville Historical Society archives and was able to see what a great impact she had on the Society. She will truly be missed.

I will always treasure the joy of working with Flo on the Granville Bicentennial production of "Stones Falling Westward" in the Old Colony Burying Ground. She was the inspiration for that event and Bill was the cheerleader alongside! Their teamwork was remarkable, and their friendship unforgettable.

I will always remember Flo's professionalism, her great sense of humor, and her generosity as Archivist and Special Collections caretaker. She made a big difference in my life at Denison.

Dear children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Flo and Bill,

My husband, Louis Middleman, and I send sincere condolences in the deaths of both of your parents. It is a significant loss for you and for the entire Village and college communities.

We moved to Granville in 2000, when I became Director of Libraries at Denison, and your parents were among the first to welcome us warmly to their beautiful bungalow up the hill near the campus. They were our close friends and frequent dinner companions for the next 10 years, until I retired from Denison and moved back to Washington, DC.

Shortly after I arrived at Doane Library, our archivist left to take another job, whereupon I asked Flo whether she would consider coming out of retirement to be our part-time archivist until we could find a new person for the position. Though I know Flo loved her retirement and her commitment to the Granville Historical Society and other village charities, she agreed to help Doane Library once again. She did her usual splendid job for quite a few months until the new archivist arrived.

Both she and Bill were unfailingly encouraging to Louis and me.

We sorely miss them both.

in sadness,
Scottie & Louis
