Alvydas J.
Biciunas
March 31, 1943 – May 27, 2026
McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home
4:00 - 6:00 pm (Eastern time)
Alvydas J. Biciunas, known fondly as Al, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on March 31, 1943, in war-torn Lithuania, Al's early years were marked by resilience and the courage of his family. In the autumn of 1944, his family fled the encroaching Soviet troops, taking refuge in Germany until 1949. That year, they embarked on a new chapter, arriving in Chicago where they laid down roots in December.
A lifelong learner and creative spirit, Al pursued an Associate's Degree in Art from Crane Junior College, now known as Malcom X College of Chicago. It was during his time at Tractor Supply Company, working as a Key Line & Paste Up worker, that he met his beloved wife, Lee (Thompson) Biciunas. Their shared passions led them to establish Ampersand Liquors, a cherished neighborhood gathering spot in Chicago.
In 2004, Al and Lee made Granville their home, dedicating themselves to community life. They were avid volunteers at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, tending to the gardens with care and devotion. Residents recall Al's frequent strolls through the village, where his presence became a fixture, much like the local vendors he was known to support.
Al had an artist’s soul, expressed through his abstract paintings and heartfelt poetry. His community at Taco Dan's in Granville was an extension of family, where friendships blossomed over shared meals and conversations.
Left to celebrate his life are his siblings, Remijus "Migo" Biciunas, Peter Biciunas, Casey Biciunas, and Grazina Santoski; his sister-in-law, Joan Biciunas; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Al was preceded in death by his cherished wife Lee, his father Pranas Biciunas, his mother Julia Ona Biciunas, and siblings Dalia Biciunas, Giedre Biciunas, and Paul Biciunas.
A visitation to honor Al's memory will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home in Granville. The funeral home is privileged to support Al’s family during this time of remembrance.
The village of Granville will long remember Al for his gentle spirit, artistic contributions, and unwavering commitment to his community. He will be dearly missed, but forever cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
