Barbara Joan Evans

Barbara Joan Evans nee Schroer passed away peacefully on May 1 2025, at the age of 91. She was born October 4, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Beloved daughter of Robert and Mateel Schroer nee Clemens, Barbara grew up in Highwater, Licking County, Ohio, and graduated Granville High School. After attending the Ohio State University, Barbara married Mark Evans from Cleveland, Ohio in 1956 and raised four children.

Moving around with Mark and the children, Barbara called many places home. After living in New York, Florida and Paris, France, she and Mark returned to Ohio in retirement. Paris was a city that was close to her heart, where she made many friends and developed a deep appreciation for French culture, language, cuisine, and arts. She worked as a travel agent and English teacher (Paris), had a great love of travel, gardening, animals and crafting, which she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara was dedicated to serving her community through the church, and cherished the friendships she developed there.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Evans (m. June 9th 1956), brother Wesley Schroer (Rosemary), and sister Marion Burge (Larry). Barbara is survived by her siblings Jan Ceighton (Jack), John Schroer (Libbie), Susie Hill (Keith), sister-in-law Carol Evans (David), her children Steve Evans (Candy), Suzanne Darling (Mark), Mark Evans (Karla), and Sharon Evans Schuler (Karl), her beloved grandchildren Chris, Lauren, Katy, Alexa, Dylan, Melissa, Jennifer, Tim, and Kelsey, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, friends, and family members who lovingly cared for her in her later years. Barbara will be remembered for her helping and kind heart, and love of life.

A celebration of life is being planned for this summer at First Presbyterian Church of Granville.
