Helen J. Barringer

July 30, 1928 — January 28, 2010

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen J. Barringer, 81, of Granville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant.

Mrs. Barringer, loving mother and grandmother, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.  She was born July 30, 1928 in Binghamton, NY to the late Francis and Helen (Quinn) Dunn.

A 1946 graduate of Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in New York City, Helen worked hard most of her life as a registered nurse.  She spent the majority of her married life in Michigan until residing in Granville three years ago to be closer to family.  Her greatest joys in life were the grandchildren she loved so dearly and how proud they made her.

An avid gardener and reader, Helen also enjoyed sewing.  She dearly loved her pets which meant the world to her.  Her enthusiasm for American history, particularly Thomas Jefferson, led her to visit Williamsburg, Virginia often with her family.  She will be fondly remembered for the time spent with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her son, Charles Barringer of Grand Blanc, MI; daughters and sons-in-law, Deirdre and John Engstrom of Canandaigua, NY and Jeannine and Dr. Peter Nock of Granville; daughter-in-law, Robin Barringer of Kingsley MI; and five grandchildren, Caitlin Barringer, Rachel Engstrom, and Katherine, Sam , and Will Nock.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Barringer, who died Sept. 19, 1975; two sons, Kimberly and Kevin Barringer; one brother, Francis; and three sisters, Mary Jane, Jacqueline, and Patricia.

Arrangements are in the care of McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL HOME in Granville.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058.
