Norma Heckler Bossart

March 19, 1928 — January 3, 2026

Granville

A graveside service honoring the life of Norma Lorene Heckler Bossart, age 97, of Granville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, January 16, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home, 133 South Prospect Street, Granville.

Born in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, Norma was the daughter of the late Paul and Nellie Heckler. She graduated with honors from Youngwood High School in 1945 and worked as a legal secretary during World War II. She married Daniel Ralph Bossart in 1946, and together they shared 74 years of marriage while raising five children across multiple states.

Norma worked throughout her life in a variety of roles: courthouse clerk, Presbyterian church secretary, hospital volunteer, H&R Block seasonal staff, and licensed real estate broker. She taught Sunday school, led sewing workshops, hosted Cub Scout and Girl Scout meetings, and volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and local civil defense organizations. She was a member of Newcomers Club, where she met long time friend, Jeanette Mitchell. Norma and Dan were also involved in square dancing, and spent years dancing the night away with their group “Shuffles & Ruffles”. In retirement, she sang with the Sweet Adeline’s Woman’s chorus and spent time researching her family’s genealogy.

Known for her quiet strength, organizational grace, and deep devotion to family, Norma never missed a birthday and held generations together with consistency and care. Her life reflected steadfast faith, love in action, and a commitment to community wherever she lived. She was a gifted cook and baker, and never failed to have baked treats when family gathered. Her ability to make lunch/dinner out of nothing was remarkable.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Patricia and John Whitaker, Jeff and Bobbie Bossart, Janice Bossart, Doug and Barbara Bossart, and Greg and Erin Bossart; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel R. Bossart, and her sisters, Gladys Heckler and Doris Heckler Kunkle.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice of Greater Columbus, 9200 Worthington Road, Suite 300, Westerville, OH 43082.
