A private family gathering will be held at a later date for Richard T. Curtis, 87, of Newark. Mr. Curtis died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Sterling House in Newark. He was born September 4, 1921 in Cambridge, MA to the late Patrick and Catherine (Sweeney) Curtis.
A veteran of WWII, Dick served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Ford Motor Company as an assemblyman and did trim repair for 30 years, retiring in 1979. Being of the depression era he will fondly be remembered for his ability to see the usefulness and recyclability of things. He also was known to cut coupons and send them to family members.
Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Joseph Lenge of Worthington and Diane Curtis of Granville; grandchildren, Danielle, Lucas, Hannah, and Claire Bidigare-Curtis, Vanessa Lenge, and Jessica (Steve) Kane; and great granddaughter, Gabrielle Kane.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Bent) Curtis, who died in 2004; brothers, John, Daniel, Girard, Father Edward O.P., and James Curtis; sisters, Catherine Hill, Helen Curtis, Sister Mary Edna Curtis, O.P., Sister Emerita Curtis, O.P., Elizabeth Curtis, and Margaret Cunniff.
