A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Dougan will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Ginny died March 24, 2012 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born June 14, 1924 in Washington, PA to the late Carlo Charles and Antonia (Lucas) Rossi.
A 1942 graduate of Trinity High School, Washington, PA., Ginny was Class Secretary and played Varsity Basketball. She earned her RN Degree from Cannonsburg, PA. School of Nursing in 1946 and was employed by Dr. C.L. Petersilge for 30 years in Newark, OH. Nurse Dougan always remembered and acknowledged the hundreds of children she "gave their baby shots to" as well as their families. She knew no stranger and spared no words.
After moving to Newark in 1965, Ginny became a member of St Edward's Parish in Granville and served with the Women of St. Edward's, volunteered for several church groups, and served many years as leader for visitations to the homebound. She was also a member of TWIG 16 at Licking Memorial Hospital, Granville Fellowship, volunteered for the Licking County Area Diabetes Association, and Licking County Aging Program at Zerger Hall in Newark. She also is a Charter Member of Immaculate Conception Christian Mothers in Washington, PA.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Patricia A. and Nick Armbrust of Quinton, VA, Michael P. Dougan of Canton, OH, Daniel O Dougan and Tracy Z. Turner of Columbus, and Robert and Jane Dougan of Granville; daughter-in-law, Brenda Dougan of Hilton Head Island, SC; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many special friends whom graced her in her time of need and that she truly loved so dearly. She and her family were blessed by so many professionals and volunteers who helped her through her illness, for those we are thankful.
In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her son Terrance R. Dougan who died in 1990; siblings: Elinor Morris, Sophia Zofchak, Charles Carl Rossi- child death, Charles William Rossi.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the church where a Vigil Service will be held at 6 P.M. To ensure family receipt, please express all online condolences at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
