David L. Shumway

The world is now a safer place. David L. Shumway passed from this life on December 8, 2020. He was born January 29, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Arthur M. and Mildred L. (Wright) Shumway and remained a Michigan fan his whole life.

A 1961 graduate of Granville High School, Dave attended Denison University and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a founding father and grand pooh bah of Kabloona International, life member of Neldon’s Landing Yacht and Racket Club, champion pie eater, avid reader, and enjoyed genealogy. His day to day activities included B.A.S.E. jumping (Building, Antennas, Spans, Earth), underwater caving, wing suit flying, and checkers.

Surviving are his sons, David L. Mayhew and Jacob M. Shumway and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Rosemary and Alifair Shumway; sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Daniel Hurley; nieces and nephews, Dr. Nathan Shumway, Thomas Shumway, Margot Shumway, Sarah Royse, and Joshua Hurley.  

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenelle French; brother and sister-in-law, John and Julia Shumway; and companion, Kathleen Thornton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Dr., Heath, OH 43056.  

A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at GO BLUE!
