Doris Humiston Obituary

Doris Simoneau Humiston, 100, formerly of Rye, New Hampshire, passed away at Middleton Senior Living in Granville Ohio on November 25, 2022.

Dot was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, the first of five children, to the late Jean Baptiste Simoneau and Helen Allaire Simoneau on August 31, l922.  It was in Laconia that she would grow up, marry the love of her life, Sheldon, in 1947, start a family, and embark on many adventures from Bangor, Maine to Mobile Alabama where Sheldon’s work led them.

A graduate of Ecole du Sacre-Coeur and Laconia High School, much of Dot’s career outside the home was in dental health. She retired after 21 years as business office manager from Breakfast Hill oral surgeons in Rye, New Hampshire. She also enjoyed her post retirement work with Chanel at Macy’s in Portsmouth.

Dot loved the outdoors and spent much of her time on Rye Beach, near their home. She was a life-long skier and skied well into her 70s, often making her way back to the ski areas. New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains were her playground.

Known for her great sense of style, her sharp wit, love of music, dancing, hosting a great party, and inability to be on time, ever, Dot was culinarily gifted. She delighted in baking birthday cakes for the family and was known for her wonderful pies. Her fun nature and constant smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her daughters, Kathleen (David) Wilkins of Granville Ohio, and Shelley (John) Wadsworth of Zebulon, North Carolina; grandsons, Charles (Monique) Coleman, D. Matthew (Pasqualina) Wilkins, and Scott (Ashley) Wilkins; granddaughters, Christine Coleman (Max) Miles, Meghan Wadsworth (Colin) Davis; great grandchildren, Madison Coleman, McKenna Coleman, Katie Rose Davis, Aiden Davis, Oliver Wilkins, Samuel Wilkins, Benjamin Wilkins, and Ruthie Wren Wilkins; brother, Larry (Susan) Simoneau; brother-in-law, Richard Edmands; several nieces; and a nephew.

In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Sheldon E. Humiston; brothers, Norman Simoneau, and his wife Thelma of Laconia, NH, Jean Simoneau, and his wife Barbara of Manchester, NH; and sister, Anita Edmands of Surprise, Arizona.

A life-long Catholic, Dot loved her church. She was member of The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, Granville where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday December 14, 2022 with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. Private interment will follow at Welsh Hills Cemetery, Granville.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville where a Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. and remembrances will conclude calling hours beginning at 6:30 P.M..
