Jeanne L Marshall

Our much loved Jeanne Marshall passed away October 13, 2021 surrounded by her three loving daughters, Diane, Paula, and Karen. She will be cherished and missed by so many as she is welcomed into the kingdom of heaven joining her beloved husband, Lee and her son Ken.

Jeanne was born on October 24, 1936 in Webster, Massachusetts to her parents Rod and Medora Ricard. As an only child she grew up among many loving cousins, Aunts, and Uncles.

Jeanne graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1954 and was accepted with a scholarship in Journalism at Marquette College, but opted instead to stay close to home where she landed a fabulous job as the Executive Secretary for the Athletic Director at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. She loved that job. She met the love of her life on a blind date while attending a baseball game that Holy Cross was playing against Nichols College. It was literally love at first sight when Lee looked up into the stands and saw Jeanne for the first time.

Jeanne and Lee were married on July 7, 1956. They had 4 children - Ken, Diane Paula, and Karen. Lee traveled quite a bit which meant Jeanne was home with 4 small children. She dedicated her time to making sure her children were ready for school, manage their activities including sporting events, while also providing lots of entertaining experiences such as driving through the cemetery on Halloween with the neighborhood kids, camping in the back of the station wagon, or taking them to Whalom Park Beach in the summers.

Jeanne enjoyed antiquing and collected many treasures. Many of which became prized possessions. Jeanne was also a very good writer. She wrote articles for the local paper in Lunenburg, MA. A favorite story was the one she wrote about a ghost that lived in an old New England house they would pass every time they went into town. You’d swear you could see the ghost in the windows as you went by.

When Lee had an opportunity to move up in his career as sales manager for a specialty paper company, the Marshalls packed up and moved to Granville, OH. Granville became a home away from home with its New England charm.

When their son Ken passed away in 1978, their lives came to a sudden halt. After days, nights, and months of heartfelt grief, Jeanne decided to start a career. She attended the Ohio State University where she received her Real Estate license in 1980. She proudly worked for Dick Pinkerton and Woeste Real Estate for most of her 18 years in the business. She absolutely loved working with people and was very successful achieving both the Million Dollar and Five Million Dollar awards in sales.

After retirement they left their lovely home on Bryn Du Drive in Granville and spent the next 15 years in Bonita Springs, FL. After many lovely years in the Sunshine State, Jeanne became Lee’s loving caregiver as he suffered from cancer. After he passed in 2015 she remained in Florida - steadfast on spending the rest of her life there. She herself was then diagnosed with breast cancer, had 2 strokes and survived living through Hurricane Irma where the eye of the storm went right over her house.

When she finally made the decision to come back to Granville (after much convincing from her daughters), she chose to live at Kendal at Granville. The staff there was so wonderful to Jeanne even though many of her days there were fraught with more health issues. As much as she wanted to live until she was 100 years old, her tiny body just couldn’t handle the stress of her ailments. Her very last words to her daughters were, “I’m ready to go now. I love you, goodbye my dears.”

Jeanne is survived by her three daughters, Diane Marshall, Paula Marshall (Mara Daidone), Karen Rittenhouse (Keith), and Grandson Joey Rittenhouse. Preceding her in death are her father, Rod Ricard; mother, Medora Ricard; husband Leon Marshall, her son Kenneth Marshall, and Granddaughter Emily Rittenhouse.

Diane, Paula, and Karen are extremely appreciative of the kind support of many friends and family, the staff at Kendal at Granville and the staff at Licking Memorial Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville, Ohio with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Jeanne’s favorite charities, Pilot Dogs, Inc., 625 West Town Street, Columbus, OH 43215 or St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
