Tristan Tolloty Obituary

A celebration of life will be held for Tristan Reed Tolloty, 16, of Granville, on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark. The format will be open house, with a brief tribute at 1:00 P.M. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Tristan was born in Canton, Ohio to Brian and Jessica (Concato) Tolloty. A passionate sports enthusiast, Tristan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at his home. With the help of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and their amazing staff, he successfully overcame leukemia at the tender age of 1 and has been cancer-free for the past 15 years. Tristan served as both the LLS Boy of the Year and a Hero for the Pennies for Patients programs.

Tristan was resilient, optimistic, full of character, competitive, and had a large personality. One of his long-time physicians in Cincinnati described him as “spunky while kind and sweet, vulnerable yet strong, and quietly expressive – a beautiful and inspiring person.” Tristan loved the Granville community. He was a varsity member of the Granville High School Bowling Team, enjoyed Granville rec league basketball, and was both a former member of the Chess Club and Team Manager for the Granville High School Soccer Team. His best-loved teams were the Browns, Cavaliers, and Crew, and he attended a number of their games each year.  His battle with cancer afforded him unique opportunities to meet a number of his favorite athletes, including the entire Cavs team in their Cleveland locker room.

Beyond athletics, Tristan had numerous interests and hobbies. He loved playing video games, and spent the most time playing Madden NFL. He was a comedy enthusiast, thoroughly enjoying “The Office”, “Parks and Recreation”, and the work of both Will Ferrell and Jim Gaffigan. He had a growing affinity for designer clothing. Tristan loved to travel with his family. In his abbreviated life, he visited a total of 14 countries and Caribbean territories, with Italy being his favorite destination. He had a trip planned to London and Paris in 2024. Finally, he absolutely relished the Disney World experience, visiting the parks and resorts nearly 30 times in the past 15 years, with an additional trip planned in April.

He will be remembered as a kind, sweet, and caring son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents; his dearest sister and best friend, Julia; maternal grandparents, Robert, and Katheryn Concato; paternal grandfather, Robert Tolloty; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and best buddy, Baxter, his Mini-Berne doodle.

Preceding Tristan in death is his paternal grandmother, Jeannine Tolloty.
