A memorial service celebrating the life of Howard M. Garrett, 88, of Granville will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway in Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant.

Howard, a proud WWII U.S. Navy veteran 1945 -46, died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Kendal at Granville.  He was born in 1927 to the late H B Garrett and Ella (Marshall) Garrett.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Business Administration, Howard embarked on a 40 year career with State Farm, earning his C.P.C.U. He retired in 1989 as Division Manager.

Howard served on the Granville Village Council for 12 years and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church.  He enjoyed traveling the world, golfing and watercolor painting as well as volunteering at the Granville Public Library.  He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, easy-going personality, and having the character of a great gentleman.  Most of all, he was a quiet, unassuming individual who was a hero to many.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Myers) Garrett; children, Liz Himes of Littleton, CO, Christine Kovach of Wooster, Peter Garrett of Columbus, Mike Garrett of Newark, and Susan Garrett (Robin Queen) of Chelsea, MI; grandchildren, Kate Kovach, James Himes, Marshall Garett, Megan Himes, Sarah Sevara, Alice Garrett, and Zack Garrett; great grandchildren, Kayley, Orion, Raven, Tyler, Juniper, Ireland, Austin, and Coraline; and sister-in-law, JoAnne Garrett of Stockton, CA.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Garrett.
